Personal Mission:  My mission as a man among men is to seek a world of happiness by listening to others, to my inner selves, feelings, aspirations and to speak from a gentle honesty.  Further as a man among men to contribute by touching others as lover, father, artist, healer, leader, teacher and friend.

Action in the World: I have participated with other men in developing and facilitating the Father-Son Retreat run out of the local Planned Parenthood. It is a day long event for 10-12 year old boys and their fathers or male mentors to bond, and begin conversations about service in the community as well as their developing sexuality. My current work is to find a new institutional home for this event. I have become a trainer of trainers for the Our Whole Lives sexuality curriculum for Junior and Senior High as well as Adults, promoting and teaching the curriculum both with in and outside of my faith community. Working with this curriculum is particularly exciting as it gives me as the facilitator practice in opening up the space in the room without presenting my opinions while not letting go of myself. This work grew out of my involvement with my faith community, where, in addition, I co-teach a segment of the coming of age curriculum to our youth; facilitating their struggle to identify and write a personal belief statement. This involves keeping them on task, but otherwise listening to them, teaching them that they have their own inner voice.  Other work has involved my vocational work, taking my medical training for trips to Nicaragua to work in Jalapa, a small town in the mountains, with a group called Interfaith Service to Latin America.  I have become Medical Director for this group.  Listening has become central in this work, spanning cultures.  Listening to the people of Jalapa in whatever ways that we can to understand what they want and need, rather than what we want to bring to them.
