Personal Mission:  To create a world where men own their power with integrity by owning my own.

Action in the World: Operation Elf: My wife and I have organized and led this project to collect volunteers and donations in order to provide Christmas gifts for poor families in our area. This was inspired by a similar project in Marin County, California, which we supported when we lived there prior to moving to Santa Fe. Needy families are identified through local charity and social service organizations.  Last year we provided holiday gifts for more than 70 individuals in twenty families.

Annual MKP Clothing Drive: I was looking for a way to involve more MKP members in community service activities, and was inspired by the bags of older clothing in my garage. Many families have clothing in storage that they will likely never need again. So – why not collect it and donate it to Goodwill Industries as a gift from MKP? This will give more men an opportunity to take a small step into community service if they have been hesitating, and it will generate positive publicity for our organization. This year we collected about forty large trash bags of clothing. Hope to do more in 2008.

BBBS: Big Brothers Big Sisters is a very rewarding way to make a difference in ones community. There are a lot of young persons out there who need an adult mentor in their lives, and I love kids – so it was a natural for me. I have had two “littles” and now – due to a move-away – am about to get a third. For the past year, Jason was my little brother. He was six when we started, just in time for his seventh birthday party. Shortly after his eighth birthday party, he moved to Texas with his Mom. In between, I had a fantastic buddy whom I will never forget.

Kitchen Angels: They are a local charity that provides free meals to elderly or ill people in the county. There are many levels to this organization, most of which are on a volunteer basis. This includes my participation as a substitute driver. Most routes are covered by a different driver each day of the week, to distribute the load. If a driver is unable to run their route for any reason, they contact persons on the substitute list to find a replacement. As a sub driver, I get calls at random times, often more than one per week. If I am free, I take the route, picking up the meals and addresses from the center. I get to explore parts of the county I would never otherwise see, and I get to meet a lot of very interesting people on the way.
